Gabe Ruediger Injuries

Every sport has them(and even games like golf). It happens when you push your body harder and longer than it can handle. Sometimes, its just an accident or a mistake. I have heard this quote from multiple people. "If your going into a fight NOT injured, you didnt train hard enough". Well, I must have trained hard enough for my last fight.

Im not going to say what my injury is but 2 weeks BEFORE my last fight I acquired the injury I am currently dealing with.

Now, I had the op… Continue

Gabe Ruediger Supporting cast

Like any major production(or minor one for that matter), whether its a movie or a concert, there are a large number of people that are involved to make it a success. Fighting is no different. Granted, the final product is decided by the individual(the fighter), but the final product is decided by the supporting cast who helped put it together.

This training camp has been hard and has really pushed me. I am extremely grateful to have to team and support that I have had for it though.… Continue

Gabe Ruediger Good bye to a good friend

These past few weeks, Ive been focused on nothing but my next fight. Im in the gym day in and day out, pushing and trying to improve every aspect of my fighting vocation. With all this time put in, Ive let a friend of mine grow and grow and even though he has been a hindrance in certain things, he has been with me the whole time. Today was different. We went for a run and he was really beginning to irritate me. Even with his masculinity and potency, I knew it was time. I came home and did the ha… Continue

Gabe Ruediger Rest day

Today I am taking a much needed rest day. I trained Monday(Sparred at PKG, ValleyCrossfit at 530 and then back to PKG for more sparring at 730), Tuesday(Kickboxing at Bob Chaneys, CrossfitbyOverload at 530 and then back for grappling at night) and yesterday(More HARD sparring at PKG and a run). My body was breaking down and I'm having a much needed rest day. Today I have done NOTHING and its been glorious. I will most likely go for a light jog tonight to ensure that my metabolism keeps at it and… Continue

Gabe Ruediger The return

As I prepare for my title fight in That Tachi Palace fighting organization, I try to find every possible way to better my training and my performance. Ive been pushing it at Valley Crossfit(Thanks Coach Latch for assisting and making me want to cry), sparring at the blackhouse(Anderson Silva and Jose Aldo are special fighters), training at PKG( Mac Danzig is going to smash Wiman, Jeremy Umphries is going to Smash CJ Clifford in Strikeforce and Kengo Ura just won the Pancrase title!!), Back to Er… Continue

Gabe Ruediger July 9th back to it!!

I have signed to fight in the Tachi Fighting Championship. Ill be fighting Undefeated(until July 9th that is =) ) Lenny Lavato for the world title. Im excited to fight and this should be a good one. Fighting for a title is something special and Im looking forward to having one again. The Tachi belt is really nice and it will be an honor to have it.

I dont really know too much about my opponent. He is 9 or 10 and 0. That is an impressive record for MMA, but it doesnt really tell you muc… Continue

Gabe Ruediger Celebrity Private lesson?

Ok, apparently there is video and pictures of me doing a private lesson and for what ever reason people feel that this is "NEWS WORTHY" I figure Ill give some back ground and explain what happened.

So, about 2-3 weeks ago I got a call from a mutual friend of myself and Media darling Paris Hilton asking if I would do a private lesson with Paris. Now, I need to preface with, if anyone really knows me, they know I have ZERO interest in Hollywood or famous people. I do however enjoy money… Continue

Gabe Ruediger Lake Tahoe fight night

I was just talking to a friend of mine who had heard this story and I realized it gets recycled and told so much that it must be entertaining. Ill try to do the real occurrence justice.

*disclaimer* This happened in 2004 and I don't do this type of nonsense anymore.

The fifth fight of my career was in South Lake Tahoe. I ended up fighting at a higher weight(170lbs) because my first opponent had pulled out and I was there to fight. The… Continue

Gabe Ruediger REST

Once again I allow my blog to sit and get stale. So, my productive and busy month of April was an entire wash out, missed the due date for the Pan ams registration, my fight got canceled the day of weigh ins and I got sick while in AZ helping Ben Henderson get ready(on a side note, Ben won his fight with a slick guillotine in the first). All that together with my constant training, Just burnt me out.

This past week I had ZERO interest in doing anything MMA related. I still did crossfit… Continue

Gabe Ruediger This site will make your penis grow

Actually, no it wont. It did however get attacked by spam offering penis enlargement and other useful therapies/supplements. This is the second version of my site and although I like its functionality, it is still open for stupid spamming. Ill do my best to ensure its monitored correctly.

I was due for a blog anyways.

The month started off rough. I didnt have the right deadline for the Pan Americans right and missed my registration for them. Its ok though. All that Pajama tra… Continue

Gabe Ruediger full plate

February 4th was the last time I was in action. Ive been training straight through with the hopes of fighting as soon as possible. I walked away from my last fight with not one injury and went right back to training. Unfortunately, nothing came up. I decided last week that I would do the Pan American games of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to stay active.
Ive been in my pajamas everyday trying to remember all the nuances of Gi training. Ive been enjoying it and its been nice to have something to work… Continue

Gabe Ruediger The Eye

My last blog got me thinking about one of if not the greatest "fight"/motivational songs ever. I know many might be thinking Im talking about I touch myself by Di Vinyls, but Im not. Im talking about EYE OF THE TIGER! Now, survivor(Thats the group who wrote this masterpiece) hit it big with this single and deserved it! I mean, come on. Rocky 3! Now, Rocko wasnt fighting for democracy or fighting a steroid monster to avenge his friend and ensure america won the cold war, but he was fight MR FRICK… Continue

Gabe Ruediger Any given sunday

No sports have a clear cut winner each time. There are always favorites and on occasion the "under dog" will pull off a HUGE UPSET. Its a rarity in boxing or kickboxing, but it does happen. Now, in MMA, it happens a lot more often than any other sport, especially combat sports. I like to call it the ANY GIVEN SUNDAY FACTOR.

Fans and those who watch dont understand everything that goes into the actual fight. they also will never understand that if you are not 100% in any facet(mental, p… Continue

Gabe Ruediger Hearts on fire

This evening I decided to go for a run. One item that is always present for my runs is my trusty Ipod. I pat myself on the back for the mix, but tonight was special. My first 10 minutes was tough and I couldn't get a rhythm going, but then it happened. Like a light in the dark, John Cafferty's Hearts on fire comes on. Not familiar with Mr. Cafferty(well neither was I, but google took care of that)? He is the genius who wrote the training montage(HEARTS ON FIREContinue

Gabe Ruediger A journey begins

I recently got an email saying that my blogs are too funny and that I make light of serious topics. So tonight, I'm taking a Detour and I'm going to talk about something very, very important:

There are tribes in Africa that send boys into the jungle to kill a lion as a test of becoming a man.Young Spartan boys were thrust naked into the snow, forced to kill a wolf before being deemed a man. Other cultures go through long rituals as rites of passage. I've been around the world, fought sk… Continue

Gabe Ruediger Say your piece

I was refereeing a Jiu Jitsu tournament yesterday and noticed one group of competitors grouped together. They would look at me and then huddle together like hens eating corn, look at me and then go back to grazing. I looked over to the head chicken and asked if he had something to say. His answer "no, not a thing", but as is so common, as soon as I backed away he goes back to his friends and starts talking again. When the tournament was over I confronted the head chicken again. After pushing him… Continue

Gabe Ruediger Moving

So I moved out of "beautiful" Temecula( quotes denote sarcasm) a little over 2 weeks ago. I am now living in what is referred to as "The valley", which is basically right above Hollywood Ca. I was traveling all over for training anyways, so I figured I should at least somewhere I would like to live. Temecula just didn't suit me and I am glad to be out of there. Since Ive moved Ive been in that dreaded "transition" period(bear with me, I have a feeling there will be a lot of " " in this blog). I… Continue

Gabe Ruediger relevance

In MMA your only as good as your last win and the last BIG press you have done. When you are on TV and in every magazine or on a HUGE win streak, you are relevant. You have worth. People want to know you and opportunity is everywhere. What happens when Your not winning, not on TV, not in the magazines, not RELEVANT?

Its strange for me. Ive been in all aspects of the fight game. I started off fighting in 2002 when the sport as a whole had no mainstream relevance. It didn't matter to tho… Continue

Gabe Ruediger The power of the commentator

I watched the footage of my latest fight the same night the fight happened. The Tachi Palace gives you a DVD right after the event is over. I got to see and HEAR the entire bout. Now, I am of course biased, but I felt the fight up to that point was competitive and really could have gone either way up to the end. I watched the fight with commentating and I started to doubt it myself. Im seeing him not hit me, but the commentators are saying Im taking shots, they are saying Im not imposing my will… Continue

Gabe Ruediger The morning after

So, I fought last night. The fight was really back and forth and ending the second round, I felt it could have gone either way. With less than a min to go, I threw a right kick, my opponent, caught it and tried to counter with a right hand leading in, I spun and caught him clean with a spinning back fist that dropped him. I immediately jumped on his back and choked him. I very nice ending to a hard fight.

Its not 8:30 Am the day after. Im sore but in a good way. I have some marks on my… Continue
